Dear Editor:
In the June 29th edition of the Yorkton This Week, a letter to the editor from Claudia Wagar was printed that unfortunately leaves the impression that the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency has patients waiting without a diagnosis or treatment for a significant period of time.
Although the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency can appreciate the frustration of the writer regarding timely care, we do not diagnose patients but offer cancer treatment and supportive programs once they are referred to us by a physician or surgeon.
We would also like to clarify that, although the author quotes Glenda Little as a spokesperson, she does not currently work for the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. The comments made by Ms. Little may have been attributed to her during a period spanning more than three years ago and would not be relevant today. Currently we have a full complement of oncologists and hematologists working to provide patient and family centred access to safe, quality care for people in Saskatchewan diagnosed with cancer. We continue to focus our attention on improving access and ensuring patients receive the care they need.
