Genealogy research has come a long way: now detailed family histories are just a mouse-click away. Those who are serious about genealogy often include lists of helpful websites among their research information.
A site worth checking is the "Heritage Saskatchewan" site (www.heritagesask.ca). Their home page lists the following as their mandate: "Heritage Saskatchewan has developed the following Key Messages to define its role in promoting and preserving Saskatchewan's heritage for future generations. Heritage Saskatchewan encourages you, as an individual and within your Heritage organization, to apply these Key Messages to your initiatives. 1) Saskatchewan's heritage of natural beauty, unique communities and rich cultural traditions is a source of pride for those who live here. 2) This sense of pride, place, and identity makes our communities strong and vibrant, and helps to attract and retain both people and business. 3) Support of Saskatchewan's heritage is important in order to ensure that future generations can learn from the past, build communities in the present, and ensure a prosperous, vital province in the future. Our heritage is a gift to future generations."
As the name implies, "heritage" is very important on this site. Another page says: "Our advocacy strategy incorporates positive methods for raising awareness about the value and importance of heritage in building quality of life for all the people of Saskatchewan."
The site also lists special events that are coming up, such as Saskatchewan Tourism Week which takes place June 9 - 15, 2013. There is also information about other interesting events such as the Saskatchewan Youth Heritage Fair Program in April and May with various events to encourage the future researchers and curators of Saskatchewan's fascinating history.
This site is definitely worth adding to your "favourites" list. Another wealth of information is the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society - Regina Branch which will keep you informed of many events through the province, such as the 2013 Saskatchewan Genealogical Society Conference "Footprints Through Time", October 4 - 6 and hosted by the Moose Jaw Branch SGS.
