As time goes on, I am left with more feelings of hopelessness when it comes to the future of our country.
I see young people all the time who exhibit bad qualities in laziness and a sense of entitlement. A case in point is that employers in Yorkton should not have to look outside the city, let alone outside the country, to find workers who are willing to do the job expected of them in an acceptable fashion. On Saturday in Regina, I am outside a fast food restaurant and there is a teenager, wearing brand name clothing, tossing his litter all over the ground. He remarked to his friends that, "They pay people to pick this up, so I may as well give them something to do." My wife, who is much more diplomatic than me told him to think about showing more respect. I would have told him that, maybe someday, he's the one hired to pick up other people's litter. Or, I may also have asked him if he worked for his Monster hat or did his parents spoil him by just handing it to him for no reason at all.
It's tough to have faith in the justice system on the best of days, but another tick in the negative column came out last week when it was announced yet another person was released from custody by mistake.
This individual was an accused being held on remand in relation to robbery charges. Furthermore, officials couldn't say if the man was called from his cell to be released or whether he simply presented himself. Whatever happened to paper trails?
Is my family normal or do we have serious work to do raising our kids? On Sunday, we went to Dauphin for family pictures with my wife's sister and her family as well as my wife's parents. I discovered two minutes into the process that our 10-year-old has extremely weak ankles as he moaned about them hurting from kneeling on the ground. This comes as a surprise to me as he excels at sports. Our 4-year-old, who has the best smile in the whole wide world, also has the best frown in the whole wide world after it was discovered she was chomping on bubble gum and it needed to be removed. Our 6-year-old was the star (how can you tell two of our kids take after me, and one takes after their mom?) for the first half an hour. Then she said her feet were sore from standing too long. But, she too is really good at sports and could stay on her feet for hours if there was a playground nearby. All three had lapses in concentration after just a few minutes, but all three could also play video games for hours on end if we let them. I guess nobody said parenting was easy and I can laugh about it now as I type this up.
The biggest game of the year for the Roughriders was this past Saturday against the BC Lions and they lost 42-5. After they appeared to, purposely, sever their season on the previous head coach they didn't like; they go out and, pretty much, assure themselves of missing the playoffs. The loss isn't the issue.
The score is what irks me. From now on, I'll buy my season tickets (which I guess is all this organization really cares about), but if I have something else on the go on game day; I'm pawning my ticket to some other sucker.
Some would suggest I'm a bandwagon fan, but I prefer to say I'm a fan who demands excellence. To support a team that lays a 42-5 egg in the most important game of the year does not deserve any fan's support. That's the problem with this team over the last 101 years. People are willing to forgive and forget these kinds of embarrassments. Honestly, I'm glad this happened. Now, there are no illusions as to what ails this club. Clean house with both management and players.
Nice person mentions this week to Scott Keith, Bill Chow, Ranjan Thakre, Kevin Foote, and Janet Scheepstra.
