Okay, just when you thought some of the youth crime we have been hearing about couldn't get any more ridiculous comes word of a situation in Saskatoon where police stopped a stolen vehicle driven by a 14-year-old and inside were a total of nine children ranging in age from 8 to 14. Five of the kids were held in custody and the four that were under the age of 10 were taken home. I have no idea if these kids are all related, but if a person is too young to be charged then I think the parents have to bear some responsibility and face criminal charges. Were these kids ever reported missing? We don't know that. Apparently, that is beyond the scope of questioning from today's media minds. It's amazing to me that the youngsters were so, promptly, returned home. What kind of home were they returned to? It can't be much if they can sneak out and get in a stolen vehicle.
It would be nice if we all played by the same rules. I bet if I spanked my 10-year-old for misbehaving and he decided to pick up the phone and call authorities, he'd be in the care of a foster family in record time. Steal a car? Well, we better get you home so mom and dad can reason with you, verbally. This is what happens when politically correct extremists get their say.
Have you seen some of these 'Occupy' protesters? No wonder they are doing what they do. They are unemployable. What I mean by that is that is difficult to hire a sales person who has various rings in his/her nose, lips, and tongue or has long greasy hair, or tattoos all over his/her face. Heck, I'm borderline employable with my permanent 3-day facial hair! That's not to be discriminatory, but the reality is that if two equally qualified people apply for the same job, you are going to take the guy wearing dress pants over the one wearing jeans with his boxer shorts sticking out the top.
National Defence Minister Peter MacKay should be returning some of his salary to taxpayers after making two big mistakes recently. The first mistake is summoning a Cormorant helicopter to pick him up from a fishing trip (in 2010), thus avoiding a long car drive back to his rural resort. The second mistake is feeding us the baloney that this was a legitimate search and rescue demonstration that he had wanted to see for quite some time. There is even a paper trail indicating this was a bad idea. The media was able to obtain documents from the military revealing the trip to fetch MacKay was 'under the guise' of a demonstration. Yet more evidence of corrupt politicians. There should be some repercussions for this, including docking his paycheque so taxpayers can recover some of the loss.
I'm not a huge curling fan, but I do like the Jennifer Jones team simply because I used to work with Second Jill Officer. Jill is on mat leave and I wish her the best. Being a Jones fan, I have been subjected to a bit of ridicule from the Jones Rink haters out there. And, there are quite a few based on the decision to fire Cathy Overton-Clapham and replace her with Kaitlyn Lawes. This was done despite the fact the Jones team was on top of the curling world. Last year at the Scotties, Jones lost to Saskatchewan in the finals. Well, Jones is back at it again and her team is the first to qualify for the Roar Of The Rings in Winnipeg in 2013.
I hope I don't over hear any further debate on whether Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin is the best player in the NHL. It's not close. Crosby wins hands down. A better question might be, who's the best goaltender in the NHL? I'll take Pekka Rinne. I'll also take Shea Weber as the best defenseman. Too bad, Nashville is void of talent after Rinne, Weber, and Ryan Suter.
It will also be interesting to see if Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault has the courage to sit Roberto Luongo and his $60-million contract in favor of Cory Schneider, who has been the superior netminder so far and doesn't have Luongo's playoff choking history. Luongo makes $6.7-million a year and is 8-6-1, 2.90, .900. Schneider makes $900 000 and is 7-4, 2.12, .930 with 2-shutouts. If I'm Vigneault, it's not my money paying the bills, so I'm slowly moving Schneider into the number one role. It will be an interesting second half in Vancouver.
Pet peeve of the week are these big department stores who cram their buildings so full of merchandise, you can't possibly have two lanes of cart traffic do shopping at the same time.
