For long suffering hockey fans in Toronto, it was beginning to seem as though they were finally starting to get things right.
That was quite a long time ago.
After finishing in last place in the Eastern Conference last season, Toronto was off to a surprisingly good start.
They had beat Montreal in the season opener, they beat Ottawa two nights later. Then they beat the Stanley Cup champions from two seasons ago, the Pittsburgh Penguins, then they beat the New York Rangers.
It was starting to seem like Christmas in October if the Leafs are your team. It had gotten so crazy to a certain extent that the one player who has already set a Toronto Maple Leaf franchise record, is the one guy whose only played in four games as a member of the Leafs.
His career high in the NHL is 17 goals.
One of the brightest spots on the entire team was Clarke MacArthur, who had scored at least one goal in each of his four starts this season.
Times have since changed and as of early November, the Leafs are finally playing the way they are known for...beating the teams they are expected to get blown away by and losing pretty much every other game on the schedule. Interviews with Ron Wilson must be getting interesting.
According to Toronto media, his job is on the line. This week will be huge. They are in Tampa Bay and then they're in Florida on Wednesday (where anything can happen).
They are going to need the Kessel/Versteeg/Bozak line to step up. Toronto hopes to have Colby Armstrong back in the line-up by Thursday.
Hopefully one day, they will have Nazem Kadri in the line-up.
