The Yorkton Terriers had another week on the road, losing a pair before coming up with a win in Flin Flon Saturday.
The week's action pushed the Terriers' Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League record to 12-7-1-2 and 27 points, tops in the Sherwood Conference.
Estevan sits second with 24 points, followed by Weyburn with 21, Kindersley at 19, then Notre Dame 18, and Melville 17.
A pair in Flin FlonThe Terriers faced the Bombers both Friday and Saturday. Friday the Bombers defended their home ice with a 3-1 win.
Riley Paterson scored Yorkton's only goal, as Flin Flon scored one on each period for the win.Jesse Michan scored two for the Bombers and Eric Millisor added one.
Devin Peters was between the pipes for Yorkton facing 34 shots in the loss.
"Friday night's game was close," said Terrier head coach Trent Cassan. "I thought we played a good road game. It was a good paced game. It was pretty physical."
A night later, the Terriers emerged with a 4-3 win over the Bombers.
Andrew Johnston and Millisor gave the Bombers a 2-1 lead after the opening period, with Brent Struble responding for Yorkton.
In the second the Terriers outscored the home team 2-1 to knot the score 3-3.
Struble and Craig Eisenhut had the Terrier goals, while Mychan responded for the Bombers.In the third, Nathan Murray scored the lone goal of the frame to give Yorkton the 4-3 win.
Warren Shymko guarded the Terrier net facing 32-shots in the win.
The Terriers were down early, as the Bombers scored on their first two shots, a two-on-one and a break away, said Cassan.
But the second period was one where the Terriers regrouped to tie the game, paving the way for the win.
"I thought it was a pretty big character win for our team," said Cassan, adding while it was obvious they were tired in the third the team still "blocked a lot of shots," to preserve the win.Cassan said it was a case where team leaders such as Keon Vick, Paterson and Struble led by example in the game.
The Terriers also had an affiliated player in the line-up John Odgers, a call-up from the Yorkton AAA Midget Harvest.
"He played real well He was having fun. He played real hard," said Cassan, adding Friday the line of Odgers, Brenden Poncelet and Justin Lamontagne "were our best line creating opportunities and playing pretty physical."
The Terriers were also bolstered by the arrival of Davis Vandane from the Western Hockey League."It was good to have him back," said Cassan. "He'll be a solid addition to our defence. He's a big kid who handles the puck well, and shoots well."Being a Yorkton player who 'APed' with the team last season helps too."He just comes in and plays and fits right in," said Cassan.
Last TuesdayYorkton was in Weyburn Nov. 2, dropping a 4-2 game to the Red Wings.Weyburn led 2-1 after 20-minutes on goals by Scott Kirkham and Cole Klippenstein.Blaine Tendler responded with the Terrier goal.
The teams traded goals in the second period Myles Cameron for Yorkton and Kirkham for Weyburn.
The Red Wings would add one in the third, Shawn Cowie scoring on the powerplay in the last minute of action.
Peters faced 22 shots in the loss.
Cassan said the result in Weyburn wasn't that bad considering the circumstances."We weren't even able to dress a full line up because of injuries and sickness," he said, adding a player came up sick the morning of the game making it impossible to find a replacement.
Then to make matters worse Weyburn struck early.
"They scored 15-seconds into the game, basically their first shot, putting us behind early," said Cassan.
After the early goal Cassan said the Terriers settled in.
"I thought we generally outplayed them the first two periods, and didn't score," he said, adding in the third the Wings did take control of the game.
Up nextThe Terriers were scheduled to play in Notre Dame Tuesday, but results were not available at presstime.
Yorkton returns to the Farrell Agencies Arena Friday for their first home action since Oct. 16. Estevan will be the visitors.
On Saturday, the Terriers host Notre Dame, and then invite the Nipawin Hawks to dance Tuesday (Nov. 16).
