MELVILLE - The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) has issued multiple suspensions to the Melville Millionaires following an off-ice incident.

The nature of the incident was not disclosed by the league but resulted in the suspension of a coach and five players.

Head coach Mike Rooney has been suspended for 10 games and handed a $1,500 fine. Players Braden Larochelle, Nicholas Samson, Aiden Robson, Alexis Giroux, and Charles Thomas-Larochelle were suspended for five games each.

The Millionaires were scheduled to start the season on Friday in Weyburn against the Red Wings, but the game was postponed due to a positive case of COVID-19.

The team's next two games, against the Red Wings and Humboldt, have also been postponed.

Currently, the teams home-opener against Estevan on Friday is still scheduled to take place.

If no further games for the Millionaires are postponed, Rooney will be able to return to the bench on October 19th, when the team hosts the Flin Flon Bombers. The five players will be eligible to return to the ice on October 9th, when Melville travels to Yorkton.
