Sacred Heart hosted the junior boys' Gr. 9-10 volleyball tournament on September 17-18.

The tournament consisted of an eight team round robin format. The teams included Sacred Heart, Yorkton Regional, Esterhazy, Swan River, Roblin, Prince Albert - Carlton, Regina - FW Johnson, and Moose Jaw - Vanier.

For most teams, this was the first court action of the year for the players.

It allowed teams to establish proper positioning on the court and to focus on the basic skills such as passing and blocking. Sacred Heart and the Yorkton Regional were the only two teams that consisted solely of Gr. 9 players. Nevertheless, it was a great opportunity to push the athletes to work hard against some older players. Sacred Heart split matches with the YRHS and Prince Albert, while they won two straight against Regina.

"The team played hard keeping all of their matches close. It is exciting to see the degree in which the boys improved throughout the tournament. The team showed incredible improvements on court positioning and serves, while blocking was strong for many of the players," offers Sacred Heart coach Curtis Moen.

Strong blockers were Jared Buzinski and Zachary Todos for the Saints. Top hitters were Jaedon Pellatt and Montana Balysky, while Tristen Mundt played his role as setter aiding in the hits. The team came a long way from the beginning to the end . They look forward to going to Prince Albert on Sept. 24-25 for another tournament." Goose Lake High School from Roblin, Manitoba won the gold over Esterhazy, while Moose Jaw - Vanier swept the bronze from Swan River.
