The Yorkton Regional High School junior football team applied some pressure against Regina.

For a bunch of Gr. 9s, winning every game they play this season probably isn't going to happen. This past Saturday was pretty good proof of that.

"These guys are just young guys," testifies head coach Roby Sharpe following a 34-0 whitewashing at the hands of the Regina Stampeders at Kinsmen Century Field in Yorkton.

Following the game, he said that it's important to not worry about the score of the game but rather focus on how to improve.

Sharpe definitely isn't taking the loss personally.

In fact, he admittedly thinks it's funny.

He talked about how many times he stood there on the sidelines laughing in disbelief because nobody knew where to line up for the snap of the ball, and in some other formations too.

"It was funny. It was comical. I was like 'are you serious?'"

He said many of the players didn't have a clue where to line up, some weren't sure of positioning and others forgot which position they were supposed to play.

"They got mixed up," laughs Sharpe.

He told them after the game that it doesn't matter where they start the season as it is their positioning when the season comes to a close.

"We can be so much better,'" he said.

For the second game of the season, following last weekend's gutsy effort when they made a second-half comeback to cut the Rider's lead in half. Quarterback/safety Mackenzie Shore put 12 points on the board himself, Sharpe is pretty confident that this team is much better then they showed over the Labour Day weekend against the Stampeders.

He said he's not worried about Shore losing any confidence in his throwing, running and catching ability."He's pretty confident," says Sharpe of Shore. "He takes it personally. He doesn't like losing either."

He said he is hoping everybody comes out for practice this week as they will be heading out on the road for a game in Regina; Sharpe said it's reason to be excited, but if they don't come out for practice, there's not going to be any easy wins.

"This whole team better be at practice on Monday. We need a damn good week of practice before Taylor Field."

Winners of the Game Helmet in week two were Shaye Paluck and Mac Keshane.

The next home game for the YRHS junior team is Sept. 18 when they take on the Dinos at Century Field.
