Senior Saints beat Kamsack on Saturday

Both football teams at the Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) have gotten themselves off to impressive starts now that high school football in Yorkton is now fully running on all levels.

The juniors pounded Esterhazy also at home, last Wednesday. On Saturday afternoon, it was the seniors who gave it to Kamsack on a windy day in the city.

Despite both programs coming out on top, neither coaching staff is getting any kind of expectations even though both wins were moreless landslide victories.

Darcy Todos, coach of the juniors said it was a "good showing on both sides of the ball" while Trent Senger seemed just as coy about the seniors' win.

His team is made up of predominantly experienced players not just accomplished in football but in other high school sports too.

Senger modestly pointed out that they actually stopped keeping score with the digits on the scoreboard reading 30-6.

"It was more like 48-6 but we don't put the score up... there's no point." The Saints have upped their record to 2-0 following last week's win over Melville.

Senger said the team put up just over 100 yards of offence in that game but almost 80 of them came on the same play.

He said he was happy with quarterback Johnny Bell who "played a really good game."

He added that this year, the senior team is very young and small but they show signs of speed and an ability to move the ball.

Senger said he was nervous coming into the Kamsack game after the Spartans put forth a strong game against the league's top team the Swan River Tigers.

"I hope it makes us that good," says Senger.

Sacred Heart's next action comes tomorrow (Thursday) when they head out to Manitoba to take on the first-place Tigers.
