Wayne and Suzanne Mitchell of KEE's Taekwondo will be leaving Canada for a week to head to Costa Rica.

The staff members of KEE's are heading to a referee seminar/refresher course and are looking to be certified. Despite the one-week trip in which they leave Regina this Friday, they've both been tirelessly working on the basement of their Broadway St. , studios to repair damage that was caused by the July 1 flooding.

"Right now, I'm tired," admits Suzanne. "Summer is supposed to be fun," she said with a hint of a smile.Wayne said there are a few going from Regina and some from Manitoba.

They will be looking to achieve international referee status while away. Wayne said he expects to have a lot of 'book work' while there but they expect they will also have a couple of days of free time.

"It's going to be more like a day at the office," he says, while Suzanne said she expects most of it will be review for her.

They both said they hope that everyone attending the seminar course will be on the same track once they return home, as far as rules of taekwondo are interpreted.

"Interpretations are always changing," notes Wayne. "They're just trying to standardize it. They both also point out that the sport is more about the athletes then the officials and that's one thing he said he hopes everyone realizes.

"They're not the centre of the game," he said of referees in general, adding that "you never remember the good ones."
