Barry Boehm won $10,000 for a hole in one recorded Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to a pretty good shot at Deer Park golf course over the weekend, Yorkton's Barry Boehm is now officially $10, 000 richer.

Golfing as part of the Men's Open, Boehm made his biggest shot on the third hole during play on Saturday afternoon.

Not only did he sink the ball in one shot, but he also took home a hefty cheque, thanks to the Yorkton Co-op's sponsoring of the $10,000 hole.

As tournament organizer Ross Fisher put it with a laugh: "If you're going to do it (sink the golf ball on one shot, you do it in a tournament where there's a $10, 000 prize."

Boehm said it was by far his best outing and added that it took him almost a third of the entire course to get back into the game.

"He was a little overwhelmed for a short while after," Fisher observed with a grin.

Bruce Thurston, store manager of the Yorkton Co-op who sponsored the whole told Boehm: "Wouldn't it be something if you got a whole in one (here)?"

Boehm said he knew going into the shot what the stakes were but apparently that wasn't enough to rattle him at all.

Allan Sauser, Deer Park head professional, said that it was the second hole in one on the third hole there this year, but that was the first time it's happened where $10,000 was awarded for getting it.

Sauser added that there's been about five hole-in-one's there this year.

Boehm said there were about eight people who saw his hole in one as it happened, adding that it was "absolutely" his best weekend on the course.

"It was just gravity. It rolled in off of the left side of the hole."

"It was very hard to believe."
