Time for area cooks to prepare their best chili.

YORKTON - For something fun in the long days of January why not pull out your favourite chili recipe and enter a new contest being held at the Bentley in Yorkton?

The idea might seem a little different but Gurjit Dhaliwal, Executive Director at the Bentley said when an employee suggested after a talk he had with the local fire chief it seemed like a great idea for an event.

Dhaliwal said the affair – set for Jan. 17. is open to any style chili a cook might want to create, and entry is free.

You “cook at home ,bring it in and we will be checking temperatures to make sure it is above 160 degrees,” he said, adding “we have slow cookers and ovens we can utilize if needed.”

There is no limit to the number of cooks.

And, of course the plan is to chose the best chili.

Dhaliwal said those wanting to taste the entries will need to buy a ticket “with partial proceeds going to the burn fund.”

And then everyone and anyone can be a judge.

“We will make it an open house to get more traffic in the building to judge, we were thinking judges vote for the best chili by putting in a ballot,” said Dhaliwal as details are still being finalized.

People may enter by contacting the Bentley, with more particulars, directions and information being available closer to Jan.10, said Dhaliwal.
