YORKTON - It was time for some outdoor education as Christ the Teacher Catholic elementary schools attended the 49th annual AMPO event.
Approximately 130 Grade 7, students from St. Alphonsus, St. Michael’s, St. Mary’s, and St. Paul’s School from Yorkton and St. Henry’s from Melville attended the event held From June 5 - 9.
AMPO is held every year at St. Michael’s Camp, which is located at Duck Mountain Provincial Park.
Students spent one week where they learned many different outdoor education skills such as fire building, archery, hiking, canoeing, orienteering and indigenous ways of knowing.
Students had the opportunity to create new friendships over the week as they had to work together in groups during games and activities.
“AMPO is very blessed to have such great sponsors who supported us,” said St. Paul’s School principal Quinn Haider. “Without them, outdoor education would not be possible.
“A huge thank you to all the staff, volunteers, parents and conservation officers for coming out for the week to support our students during this event.
“We are looking forward to the 50th anniversary of AMPO next year.”
