YORKTON - The Yorkton Business Improvement District has a new chair.

The ‘gavel’ was officially passed Wednesday with Doug Hall handing the reins to Todd Kulcsar.

For Kulcsar taking the chair’s position was sort of a natural progression as he has found himself involved in YBID as a director for some time.

“Just being a board member I’ve been doing a lot of work with Donna (Brothwell the organization’s executive director),” he said.

With that experience Kulcsar said he felt ready to take on the chair.

It’s also about a desire to see a better community for Kulcsar.

“Having a business in the community I’d like to see Yorkton grow,” he said.

In that regard Kulcsar said he has some ideas percolating.

“I’ve definitely got some ideas in my head,” he said.

However, even as chair Kulcsar can’t do it alone, and he said he recognizes that.

Whether it’s the popular Santa Clause Parades or growing June Days, both YBID efforts, their success relies on partnerships starting with the City of Yorkton. Kulcsar said in that regard he is most certainly ready to work with the city to improve the downtown.

“For me, YBID is a representative of the City of Yorkton,” he said.

Kulcsar said ultimately efforts to improve the downtown are positive for businesses in the core, and that is why he encourages area business to get involved.

It’s a case where YBID is always working to create a better atmosphere in the downtown, whether it’s the placement of flower pots, street cleaning or holding activities to draw people, said Kulcsar. In each case it brings people to the downtown, and hopefully they shop too.

“There are a lot of good small businesses downtown,” he said.
