Woman in Saskatoon court on charges of sexual assault against child

Melissa MacQueen is accused of 'repeatedly' assaulting a child under the age of 16

SASKATOON - A woman accused of killing a Milden man had an appearance in a Saskatoon court on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference against a child.

Defence for Melissa MacQueen, 42, waived her appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Sept. 27 and asked for an adjournment saying MacQueen is in the process of reviewing disclosure. Disclosure consists of the Crown’s case against the accused.

In June, MacQueen was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference against a child. According to court documents, MacQueen is accused of “repeatedly” assaulting a child under the age of 16 between June and December 2019 near Milden and Kindersley.

In March, MacQueen was charged with manslaughter in the death of 61-year-old Randy Garrett. His body was found in a house on Saskatchewan Avenue in Milden on March 4. RCMP haven’t revealed how Garrett died.

According to RCMP, MacQueen and Garrett knew each other.  At the time of Garrett’s death, MacQueen was released from custody on conditions after she allegedly assaulted Garrett in February.

A preliminary hearing on the manslaughter and assault charges is scheduled for January 2022 in Kindersley Circuit Court. On the sexual assault and sexual interference charges, the matter was adjourned to Oct. 19 in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

The Village of Milden has about 167 residents and is about 111 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
