Woman accused of trafficking firearms for street gangs headed to trial in Saskatoon

Saskatoon Police say the weapons were acquired, modified and trafficked for use by members of street gangs in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – A woman accused of trafficking firearms for street gangs is headed to trial in Saskatoon Court of Queen's Bench.

A trial will be set for 26-year-old Corey Amber Paddy on 28 firearms-related offences. Paddy pleaded not guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court Jan. 25 and her matter was sent to Court of Queen’s Bench without a preliminary hearing.

Saskatoon Police arrested Paddy on April 9, 2021, when they responded to a disturbance in the 2400 block of Arlington Avenue. Police had received reports that a man was banging on windows and doors of a home in the area.

The Saskatoon Police Guns and Gangs Unit became involved in the investigation. They searched a residence in the 1000 block of Avenue H North where they found a sawed-off rifle, rifle parts that were broken down, and a money counter. Three days later they searched a storage unit in the 3900 block of Wanuskewin Road and found five firearms, ammunition and modified firearm parts.

Saskatoon Police say they believe the weapons were acquired, modified and trafficked for use by members of street gangs in Saskatoon.

The charges against Paddy haven't been proven in court.

Police also arrested 29-year-old Brett Karol and charged him with 80 offences including possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine, and possession of the proceeds of crime. He was sentenced in June to 12 months in jail followed by 18 months of probation.

The Saskatoon Guns and Gangs Unit is dedicated to disrupting and dismantling gangs, and address violence through prevention, intervention and enforcement. The Unit deals with serious habitual offenders and high-risk offenders in conjunction with the Saskatoon Integrated Drug Unit and the Combined Special Forces Enforcement Unit.
