What should be done with buildings owned by the town?

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲hat should be done about the old Arrow building or the former Assiniboine School?鈥 Gardner asked last week as he discussed council鈥檚 plans to visit the properties.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e invite ideas,鈥 he said, urging residents who have opinions on these or other properties to contact town council.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 During council鈥檚 regular meeting on February 22, the 2015 financial statement of the Handi-Bus was accepted, but council tabled further discussion on continued funding of the Handi-Bus driver until Councillor Rick Aikman is present.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t seems to be operating quite soundly,鈥 Gardner said, referring to the recent change in which the town has been paying the driver鈥檚 wages, instead of relying on volunteer drivers.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Council approved a request from the Kamsack Public Library board for a contribution of $300 towards the construction of a new reception desk and counter.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It was agreed to renew Kamsack鈥檚 membership in the Assiniboine Watershed Stewardship Association for a cost of $1,100 and decided that the town superintendent would become more involved in the organizations and look for ways that the community may benefit from the membership.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Council agreed to issue a letter of support to Tourism Yorkton for its bid to host the Royal Bank Cup hockey tournament in Yorkton from May 11 to 20, 2018.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 After a review of the 2016 preliminary budget, council requested its administration to look for ways to reduce expenditures by about $18,000 and review options for increasing revenues by about $50,000.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e鈥檙e hoping to adopt a budget with a surplus of about $60,000,鈥 Gardner said, adding that he expects council will be 鈥減retty close鈥 to approving a budget by its next regular meeting.
