Veteran’s Week has been declared in Yorkton for Nov. 5-to-11.
It was a unanimous decision by Yorkton Council after receiving the request from the General Alexander Rose Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
“It’s time to say thanks,” said local Legion president Peter Wyatt who made the presentation to Council Monday, adding the thanks is for the men and women “who bravely gave of themselves in the past.”
The flag of remembrance will be raised at City Hall at 10:30 a.m. to mark the week.
In addition, Wyatt said the Legion will attend nursing homes Nov. 6, and schools Nov. 9 and 10 with colour parties.
“We have to thank the firefighters and 64 Field Battery,” said Wyatt as they supply members to fill out the parties.
Remembrance Day services will again be held at the Nexera Flexihall.
Wyatt thanked Council for use of the facility.
This year, there will be a candle lighting ceremony at the cenotaph the night before as well.
“There’s still people who like to come out the original cenotaph,” said Wyatt.
