Twice last week, the Yorkton Rural RCMP put out releases regarding traffic fatalities just north of Yorkton on Highway No. 9.
First on January 13, an occupant of a mini van was deceased at the scene of a head-on collision about six kilometres north of Yorkton.
The southbound mini van was attempting to pass another vehicle when the driver lost control and went into a head-on collision with a northbound pickup truck, according to the RCMP report.
One of the occupants of the mini van was deceased at the scene and the other occupant was transported to Regina General Hospital. The driver of the pickup truck received minor injuries and was transported to hospital for observations.
That accident was on Wednesday and then on Friday, only a few kilometres closer to Yorkton on Highway No. 9, the police investigated another fatal accident – this time a Chevy Impalla collided head on with a tractor-trailer unit that was running empty.
The car was southbound, crossed the centre line into the lane of the northbound tractor trailer, according to the RCMP report. The driver of the tractor trailer received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The 59-year-old male passenger of the car was ejected and was deceased at the scene, states the report. The 30-year-old male driver of the car had to be extracted and was then transported to Yorkton Hospital and then onto Regina General Hospital via STARS with multiple fractures to his upper body and extremities.
There is no indication of alcohol being a factor, states the RCMP report.
