Trial set for man charged with mischief for complaint against RCMP officer

50-year-old Jason Sutherland is charged with public mischief with intent to mislead for allegedly making a false statement and causing an RCMP officer to be investigated

SASKATOON – A trial has been set for November for a man charged with mischief for allegedly making a false complaint against an RCMP officer.

Fifty-year-old Jason Sutherland of Saskatoon is charged with public mischief with intent to mislead for allegedly making a false statement and causing an RCMP officer to be investigated.

RCMP say that in May, the Saskatchewan RCMP central district management team received a complaint of alleged inappropriate misconduct (assault) by an RCMP officer in the Rosetown RCMP Detachment. The allegation stemmed from an impaired driving investigation in April 2021.

The RCMP conducted an investigation and say that the officer wasn’t associated to the Rosetown Detachment or the complaint. At the conclusion of the investigation, police determined a false statement was made.

The charge against Sutherland hasn't been proven in court.
