Beat Beethoven The ninth annual Health Foundation Charity Road Race took place early Sunday morning, with 257 registered participants for the half marathon, 10 km relay, 5 km run, 2 km jr run and community walk. Routes for runners were exceedingly pleasant, as they were a perfect mix of asphalt and gravel running. Runners were encouraged to receive pledges, with all proceeds raised going towards medical equipment. The Charity race sees steady funds each year with totals of $30 000 - $40 000. This year a challenge was given out to runners. Finishing medals were awarded to those who could finish the 5 km course before the end of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, a total of 33 minutes. The first finisher of the 5 km course was Shawn McLean, with a time of 14 minutes. The first finisher of the half marathon was Stephen Smit with a time of 1 hour, 23 minutes. Runners enjoyed breakfast and awards after finishing their courses. Yorkton’s Charity Road Race is part of a provincial campaign, where runners get points for each race in each city featured along the map. Runners with the most points at the end move on to compete at the national level. Yorkton is the last stop on the map.Michaela Miller
