Sturgis students acknowledged during Education Week

The Sturgis Elementary School and the Sturgis Composite High School acknowledged the students and staff during the Education Week pancake breakfast on October 21.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The Sturgis Elementary School and the Sturgis Composite High School acknowledged the students and staff during the Education Week pancake breakfast on October 21. The SCC members joined staff members in preparing pancakes and sausages for the annual breakfast for students, bus drivers and staff at both schools.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This award is handed out every year during education week, Balysji said. This year's theme is聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "Celebrating Each Student."

"We take every chance to highlight your achievements and it's amazing to be able to do this in a big school division with 28 schools and students of all ages," said Balyski.

The award criteria defines a student that makes a difference, that shows respect, leadership and commitment to other students, the school and the community," he said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Kourtney Gregory was awarded the SES Student of Distinction Award.

"She works hard every day at school and is always co-operative and pleasant. When attending to tasks her creative side shines through. She is willing to share opinions, is a good problem solver, is very helpful around school and treats others respectfully. Other students are important to her and it is shown through her patience with younger students and willingness to help individuals with special needs in the school. Kourtney is involved in volleyball, dancing and figure skating. Committing to serve as 鈥楶layground Pal鈥 this year as well as numerous years of being a crossing guard shows her level of respect and responsibility towards students," Balyski said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Kyle Teron was awarded the SCHS Student of Distinction award.

"Kyle encourages other students from all grades to participate in school activities. He is helpful, kind to his peers in class, volunteers time in different classes, is willing to assist students and teachers and is involved in school activities. 鈥淗e is respectful to students and is a good ambassador for the school," said Balyski.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "I am also honoured to tell you about a very deserving employee at the SCHS who has earned the Sea Stars Making a Difference award. The award winner is a sparkling example of accomplished skilful, talented and radiant staff in GSSD,鈥 said Balyski.

Brad Cameron was also awarded the District Service Award at the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association annual general meeting in June. The award honours people who have provided outstanding leadership and service and promotion of high school athletics in the East Central District.
