聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Alan Homberg, Sturgis鈥檚 new mayor, says that his intent is to focus on the growth of the town.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "My vision for the Town of Sturgis is to focus on moving forward and being progressive," said Holmberg. "We are looking at constructing a new water treatment building with a walkway. The existing building has reached the end of its lifespan. To help cover the cost of a new plant we have begun charging an extra levy on residents鈥 water bills.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e are also continuing the work on the new sub-division," he said." It has been in the works for one and a half years now and it is time to move forward on it. The sub-division is a way that we can keep on being as progressive as possible.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Holmberg went on to mention that although the Town requires no new equipment, upgrades are part of maintaining what the community has.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "We may be looking at raising taxes in 2017," he said. "The Town has not seen a mill rate increase in two years. Raising taxes will help us remain progressive.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淲e offer incentives for businesses in the town and hope to see the area grow. It is tough for small businesses to keep up, especially with big department stores so close by. It takes a certain type of business to make it work and we are encouraging businesses in our Town.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "We are also very lucky to have such great staff working for the Town," he said. "Their dedication makes my job easier.
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淲e have a great community that is a mixture of old and young families,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he six dedicated and excellent councillors and I are working towards the betterment of our community in a positive, progressive manner.鈥
