People injured in a rash of stabbings have been taken to multiple emergency rooms in Saskatchewan.

REGINA — Emergency rooms in the province are responding to the mass casualty situation unfolding from the incident at James Smith Cree Nation.

There have been multiple reports of emergency rooms accepting patients from STARS Air Ambulance, with reports that Saskatoon hospitals may have accepted patients. There have been social media reports that Code Orange was activated at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

STARS Air Ambulance confirmed on Twitter they had dispatched STAR-11 and STAR-12 helicopters from Saskatoon, and STAR-9 from Regina, to James Smith Cree Nation this morning.

RCMP have confirmed there have been 10 people killed and 15 injured, however, Saskatchewan Health Authority is not confirming specifics regarding numbers or locations at this time.

Saskatchewan Health Authority has issued the following statement regarding the situation that is unfolding in the province:

"Our hearts go out to those affected as well as their families.

"We can confirm that we have activated our emergency response processes this morning in response to the incident at James Smith Cree Nation. This includes initiating protocols for accepting a higher number of critical patients (Code Orange).  As of late this afternoon the Code Orange was declared over, as the risk of a high influx of patient transfers due to this situation is no longer prominent.

"We can confirm that multiple people have been triaged and cared for at multiple sites and that a call for additional staff to help respond to this situation has occurred. Our medical teams are working hard to respond to patient needs as this incident unfolds.

"We are unable to confirm additional details at this time due to the evolving nature of the situation."
