Seniors graduate from computer training program

A group of seniors were all smiles March 18 when they received certificates at the conclusion of a computer training course delivered at Parkland College in Yorkton, according to a release from the College.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 A group of seniors were all smiles March 18 when they received certificates at the conclusion of a computer training course delivered at Parkland College in Yorkton, according to a release from the College.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There were 19 鈥渓ifelong learners鈥 who graduated.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Through a partnership with New Horizons Senior Citizens of Yorkton, the students came to Parkland College鈥檚 main campus each Friday for the six-week course to learn the basics of computers, file management, email, the Internet, and social media, among other topics, states the release.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 According to one of the graduates, the group included three couples, one mother/daughter team, a nun, one single man, and nine 鈥渁vailable鈥 widows/divorcees.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 聽鈥淲ith the expertise they have gained, those Internet dating sites may become very busy,鈥 he joked.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淓ach of us appreciates the effort put in by the College to make this happen, including the surprise graduation day,鈥 the graduate added. 鈥淲e express our thanks to all involved.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 According to New Horizons, this kind of computer training is in high demand. There was a waiting list for this course, and New Horizons says it will look at sponsoring another round of classes for the seniors who missed out this time.
