SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Police Service, as temperatures are expected to further drop, is reminding vehicle owners to not leave their keys and cars unattended while warming them up.
SPS reported the number of stolen vehicles with keys inside, while warming up, is once again on the rise over the past few weeks.
SPS said vehicle owners should follow proper precautions and failure to do so presents a crime of opportunity for thieves to steal their cars.
SPS recommends that make sure the keys are not inside your vehicle or keep the doors locked if leaving your vehicle idling outdoors.
SPS also suggests installing and using a remote starter that will run your locked vehicle without the use of keys.
“If that is not possible, don’t leave your vehicle unattended while warming it up. While officers work diligently to investigate and enforce crimes that are committed, these cautionary steps could prevent you from becoming a victim of a crime” said SPS in a statement.
