Residents can help keep the city's parks clean by throwing garbage in the trash receptacles and pick-up after your pet.

SASKATOON — City workers will start ramping up maintenance activities for the over 2,000 hectares of Saskatoon's parks and open spaces as seasonal workers are returning. The park clean-up process will continue until mid-May.

Spring maintenance activities include park clean-up, consisting mainly of litter control and removal of branches and leaves from turf areas and shrub beds, pumping out the spring run-off in low-lying areas in parks and green spaces.

City crews will also sweep the front sidewalks and boulevards of parks where grass, trees and or flowerpots are located. Full-size street sweepers will follow the same path after to collect the debris left behind on the road.

City workers will also groom dust trails in naturalized park areas to remove the ruts, while other activities will begin once all trails are fully dry. They will also collect litter and mow over 400 hectares of open spaces along Circle Drive and other major freeways. Trash collection in garbage cans throughout the parks will be done at least once a week beginning May 1.

Residents can help maintain the city’s parks clean and green by putting litter in trash cans found throughout all parks, picking up after your pet and do not enter large puddles created by spring run-off.

Residents are reminded that a Park Access Permit is required to access the private property through a city park to complete landscaping, construction, tree removal, renovations and building a deck, fence or pool.

Homeowners and contractors can request a permit by completing the online application form at least one week before the date required.
