COWESSESS FIRST NATION - After an extensive investigation by the Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes and Yorkton RCMP Forensic Identification Services and in collaboration with Provincial Crown Prosecution and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, charges have been laid in relation to a death that occurred in 2021.
Around 11 p.m. Aug.7, 2021, Broadview, Esterhazy and Moosomin RCMP officers responded to a complaint of an injured person in a vehicle at a business on the Cowessess First Nation. The male teen from Cowessess First Nation was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene.
Kyla Gambler, 20, from Cowessess First Nation is charged with the following in relation to the death of the teen male:
- 1 count, Dangerous Operation Causing Death – Section 320.13(3) of the Criminal Code
- 2 counts, Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm – Section 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code
- 1 count, Criminal Negligence Causing Death – Section 220 of the Criminal Code
- 2 counts, Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm – Section 221 of the Criminal Code
Kyla Gambler will appear in Broadview Provincial Court on April 6 at 10 a.m.
