The Ron Hoehn rink of Canora, with Bob Roll, Eleanor Murray and Eileen Hupka, won the Canora Town and Country Bonspiel which concluded January 31.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There were 14 rinks participating and they represented mainly the communities of Canora, Buchanan and Preeceville.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The bonspiel is one of the oldest, most successful bonspiels sponsored by the Canora Community Curling Club, said Patty Kolodziejski who assisted with the bonspiel鈥檚 organization. It has already been long established as the Town and Country Bonspiel, but it had evolved out the Farmers鈥� Bonspiel which has a history that reaches back many decades.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 With the change of the name, the nature of bonspiel has also evolved, she said. Several of the rinks registered could be identified as 鈥渇amily鈥� teams. A good example is that the B-event was won by curlers with close family ties. Brothers Kent and Rob Zuravloff were curling with their sons, Lane and Brandon.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Zeno Gulka rink of Canora won the C event. Gulka curled with his brother Roman, and friends Mel McCormick and Clarence Homeniuk.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This is a busy time of year for bonspiels at the Canora rink, Kolodziejski said. On February 15, the Ted Palagian Memorial Two-Person Stick Bonspiel was to have been held. In聽 a preliminary count, more than a dozen teams had registered for the first-time event.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Ladies鈥� Bonspiel concluded on February 6 and the Canora Mixed Bonspiel is scheduled t run from February 17 to 21.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Canora Men鈥檚 Bonspiel, which is always one of club鈥檚 biggest bonspiels, is scheduled to run on March 9-13.
