PREECEVILLE - The Preeceville School acknowledged three of its dedicated long-time teachers at a special school assembly on April 8. Doug King, principal, acknowledged three staff members assisted by Quintin Robertson, Director of Education for GSSD, Shaune Beatty, Superintendent for GSSD, Chris Balyski, GSSD Board of Directors and Amanda Balyski, Preeceville School Community Council, chairperson.
Cary Franklin has been with the Preeceville School for 10 years and, before taking a position in Preeceville, he did his internship at the Kelvignton High School. After his internship he taught at the Invermay School in 2003 for six years, teaching Physical Education, Computer Science, Art, Health and Social. He then, moved on to teach at the Kelvington School, instructing Grades 6-12 in Phys-ed, Health and Art for four years. He came to the Preeceville School in 2013 where he was responsible for instructing Phys-ed, Health and Art. He became the school’s Athletic Director, organizing all sports.
He grew up in the Tisdale area and received his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Saskatchewan. While in university he taught and coached numerous sports that included hockey.
“I find teaching very rewarding,” said Franklin. “It is about building that important relationship with each individual student. Getting to know them, seeing them grow into young responsible adults has a special meaning to me. The bonds built last a lifetime and when that student comes back to visit and tell me that I have had some influence in their lives,” said Cary Franklin.
Tonilee Lario, received a 15 years of service certificate. She attended the U of S and obtained her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Kinesiology and convocated in 2008. She did her internship at Esterhazy teaching Grade 2. After her internship she came to Preeceville in 2008, where she taught the Grade 1 class then later she taught the Grade 2 class and then returned to the Grade 1 class all at the Preeceville School.
“I love teaching,” she said. “It is very rewarding helping elementary students get excited about learning, being independent, reading and writing. When they grasp the fundamentals it is so fun to see their excitement,” said Lario.
Erin Erickson has been with the Preeceville School for 15 years and has been teaching elementary students in Grades 4. Erickson attained a Bachelor of Education at the U of S in 2006 and did her internship at Yorkdale with subbing for other teachers in Regina over the course of that year. She did some teaching at Sylvian Lake and St. Michael’s School in Yorkton, where she taught French and Grade 5 for one year. She obtained a job at the Preeceville School in 2008 where she was responsible for teaching Grade 4 up until present where she is instructing a Grades 3-4 split classroom.
“I find teaching very rewarding, seeing my students grow, learn and overcome challenges on their own,” said Erickson.
She presently helps oversees the Student Representative Council and she and her husband Josh Erickson presently instruct the golf program.
