The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum officially opened on May 25 with an open house. The public was welcomed and featured was the Ukrainian Room, as the facility is celebrating the Year of the Ukrainian, and members will be serving homemade bread and jam, refreshments and other goodies.
鈥淲e are excited to have three new theme rooms open to the public,鈥 said Agnes Murrin. 鈥淲e now have an electronics room, a hair salon room/washing room and the beginnings of our 1950s room. We have reorganized the fashion room and had additional items donated for the military room.
鈥淎s a number of you may have noticed, the whole exterior of the museum is getting a freshening up with new paint,鈥 Murrin said.
Other events planned this year include: a 1950s event on June 24 with 50s music, a mini show-and-shine event and the museum staff will be serving floats, sundaes and banana splits.
鈥淲e will be having our chili and clay oven bread day in conjunction with Old Home Week,鈥 she said. 鈥淭his will be on July 13.
鈥淲e also plan on celebrating cultural days on September 30. Keep an eye out for our posters closer to these events.
鈥淎s it is also the time of spring cleaning and re-organizing, the museum staff would like to remind everyone that we are always looking for artifacts that help us display the history of Preeceville and District,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e are also requesting any readable old Preeceville newspapers as we are compiling them in order for any future research and history books.鈥
