Preeceville High School awards academic and athletic accomplishments

Students recognized for achievements through out the year during the Preeceville School awards afternoon.

PREECEVILLE - Students at the Preeceville High School were acknowledged for their achievements at the Grade 7 to 12 awards day held on June 20. The Student Representative Council hosted a light luncheon prior to the awards that were held at the Preeceville Community Legion Hall. Emerson Strykowski and Camryn Nelson were mistresses of ceremonies for the afternoon.

The Crossroads Credit Union presented the student recognition awards to students in Grade 7 to 12. Winners were, Dexter Penner (Gr.7), Olivia Ivanochko (Gr. 8), Lexi Prouse (Gr.9), Paje Reynolds (Gr. 10), Zander Neotling (Gr. 11), and Zach Sorgen (Gr.12).

Next on the program, each home room teacher presented academic awards in English Language Arts, Social, Health, Math, Science, Band, Physical Education and Practical Applied Arts to students in Grade 7 to 12,

Grade 7 winners were: Maria Anguluan (English Language and Arts), Dexter Penner (Math, and Science), Seth Reynolds (Social and Practical Applied Arts), Maggie Ivanochko (Art, Health and Band) and Blake Descalchuk (Phys-Ed).

In Grade 8 the winners were: Danielle Viacrucis (ELA), Bri Paterson (Math and Health), Olivia Ivanochko (Science, Social, and Band), Devon Purdy (Art), Rheanna Quibod (PAA) and David Roguel (Phys-ed).

Grade 9 winners were:, Jilliane Barnachea (ELA, Art and Band), Amber Spray (Math, Science, Social, Phys-ed and Health) and Izzy Payette (PAA).

In Grade 10 the winners were, Camryn Nelson (ELA and Industrial Arts), Asia Kilborn (Math and Science), Fiona Pinaroc (Indigenous Studies) and Emerson Strykowski (PAA). Brody Descalchuk, Porter George and Oakley Zuk all received Industrial Arts medals, and Paje Reynolds won the Band award.

Grade 11 winners were:, Payton Sorgen (ELA and personal Finance), Alex Pederson (Math and Science), Zander Neitling (Phys-Ed) and Cassidy Paterson (Mental Health and Wellness).

The Student Representative Council recognized students for their dedication to the school and students. Receiving recognition were: Camryn Nelson, Paje Reynolds, Avery Franklin, Emerson Strykowski, Addison Danielson, Seth Reynolds, Cassidy Paterson and Gabby Murray.

Isaiah Maier received the cross-country most dedicated award.

The junior girl’s volleyball team members who received awards were: Sarah Masko and Amber Spray (most improved), Tess Covlin (most promising), Kacey Heskin (best all-around player), Lexi Prouse (dedication and leadership) and Maggie Bartel (dedication).

Junior boys vollleyball awards were presented to, David Roguel (most improved), Franz Pinaroc (most dedicated) and Yohan Quibod (rookie of the year).

Senior boys volleyball awards were presented to: Hudsyn Nelson (most improved), Tristan Acosta (most dedicated), Porter George (rookie of the year), Zach Sorgen, (best all-around player) and Gerbo Javelona (MVP).

Senior girls volleyball awards were presented to, Oakley Zuk (most improved) and Camryn Nelson (most dedicated).

Basketball awards were handed out by coaches. For junior girls: Kacey Heskin (most improved), Amber Spray (defensive player of the year), Lexi Prouse (most dedicated), Sarah Masko (MVP), Tess Covlin (rookie of the year) and Maggie Bartel (best all-around player).

Junior boys’ basketball award winners were: Luke Sandager and Blake Descalchuk (most improved), Justice Stittle, and Deegan Anaka (most dedicated), Dhexy Paligan (MVP), Jian Isican, (rookie of the year) and Franz Pinaroc and Ralph Graspriel, (leadership and dedication).

Senior girls’ basketball award winners included: Gabby Murray (most promising), Hallie Petryshyn (most improved) and Camryn Nelson (leadership and dedication).

Senior boys’ basketball award winners were: Gerbo Javelona (MVP), Isaac Kashuba (most improved), Porter George (rookie of the year), Brody Descalchuk, (dedicated and determined) and Zach Sorgen (playoff MVP).

Senior football awards were presented by coaches, Jeremy Mattison and Bill Dodge: Keane Balyski (top lineman), Isaac Kashuba (offensive player of the year), Tristan Acosta (defensive player of the year), Carter Scheller, (dedicated and determined), Gerbo Javelona, (MVP) and Avery Franklin (rookie of the year).

A special award was presented to Jeremy Mattison by Bill Dodge. Mattison received the East Central District Athletic Association commemorative award in recognition of coaching services to the East Central District Athletic Association. Mattison has been coaching football and basketball in the Preeceville School for 18 years.

Junior badminton awards went to Kaiden Bourassa (most improved), Lexi Prouse (sportsmanship) and Dhexy Paligan (MVP); and for the seniors, Addison Danielson (most improved), Gerbo Javelona (MVP) and Camryn Nelson (sportsmanship).

In track and field, Camryn Nelson received the female award, and Isaiah Maier received the male  award.

Athlete of the year awards went to Camry Nelson, female and Gerbo Javelona, male.
