Members of the Preeceville CWL have joined their national organization in objecting to a television series dealing with assisted suicide.
Donna Balawyder, president of the Preeceville CWL, said that the branch had received information from the national office regarding the six-part series entitled Mary Kills People by Global TV and its parent company Corus Entertainment, which began being aired on January 23.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he League is dismayed and disappointed,鈥 Balawyder said, adding that the series focuses on a medical doctor who illegally aides terminally ill patients in their attempts to commit suicide.
The series glamorizes the act of euthanasia and assisted suicide while potentially influencing the sick, disabled or infirmed to make life-ending decisions, she said. 鈥淟eague sisters have asked us to contact the Global TV network to voice our concerns.
Issues such as pornography, human trafficking and prostitution are difficult, she said. 鈥淥ur league wants us to educate ourselves.
Balawyder said that pornography is addictive, affects growing, maturing brains of young people and can form attitudes of sexual violence and disregard of women. It degrades respect within relationships, including marriage, and promotes further degrading images and attitudes toward sexual deviation. It鈥檚 a multimillion-dollar industry.
Regarding human trafficking, Balawyder said the CWL suggests persons visit thetraffickedhuman.org on the Internet in order to inform themselves in relation to trafficking.
The Preeceville CWL has been busy, said a release from the group. Members held a memorial service for deceased members and continue providing lunch with other church members on Sundays for everyone in order that children may learn their catechism.
