Several post-secondary students from the area were among the 36 to be awarded a record $118,673 worth of entrance scholarships to Parkland College this fall.
The dollar figure is the most money ever handed out by the College in a single scholarship presentation, according to a release from the College. It breaks the previous high of $110,800 awarded in March at the internal scholarship presentations.
Willow Koroluk of Canora received a $2,000 SaskTel Dollars for Scholars Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity entrance scholarship in business/technology. Nicole Burym of Canora received a $1,000 GX94/Fox FM Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity entrance scholarship.
Austin Swiderski of Invermay received a $1,000 Richardson Oilseed Dollars for Scholars Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity entrance scholarship. Twyla Cote of Kamsack received a $21,201 Yorkton Tribal Council/Parkland College Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity 鈥淪tudentship Award.鈥

鈥淲e鈥檝e been fortunate to have great support from the community and the Ministry of Advanced Education,鈥 said Brendan Wagner, chair of the scholarship committee. 鈥淚t鈥檚 important that our scholarship program keeps growing as we welcome more and more post-secondary students to the College.鈥
All students receiving entrance scholarships are taking university, skills training, or trades programs at Parkland College. The scholarships are made possible through the generosity of local businesses and organizations, community members, Parkland College staff, the annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic, and the Ministry of Advanced Education鈥檚 Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity Scholarship program, said the release The Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity Scholarship program is a matching program in which funds are provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis with local non-government donors. For every dollar raised locally, the province will match that dollar to support scholarships as available.
Students interested in learning more about scholarship opportunities at Parkland College are encouraged to stop by one of the five campuses located in Canora, Esterhazy, Fort Qu鈥橝ppelle, Melville or Yorkton, or visit to view scholarship opportunities. Internal scholarships for students already enrolled in Parkland College programs will be awarded in March. Applications for those awards will be available to students beginning in December.
