SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Police Service is asking the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of perpetrators of several crimes that happened over the weekend.
Police responded to separate incidents, two of which are deemed suspicious deaths involving different persons. A third one was a fire caused by arson.
On Sunday, a few minutes after 2 a.m., personnel from the Saskatoon Fire Department were trying control a fire in the 600 block of Spadina Crescent West when they were approached by a passerby.
The passerby informed the firefighters that he found a person lying down on one of the ramps at the nearby skate park. SFD firefighters went with the passerby to check the adult male.
They found the adult male unresponsive and he later died despite efforts to save his life. Police suspect there is foul play involved in the death of the adult male.
Police were called to respond to another incident in the 1200 block of College Drive at around 3:30 a.m. after a body of an adult female was discovered. Police are treating the adult female’s death as suspicious.
Major Crime Section detectives and the Forensic Identification Section are working on both cases. They have not yet made any arrests and more information will be released to the public once available.
On Saturday, at around 12:56 a.m., firefighters were dispatched after the SFD Communications Centre received a call of a detached garage catching fire in the 800 block of Main Street.
SFDCC dispatched four fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit, and the Battalion Chief. The first fire crew arrived at 1:01 a.m. and saw smoke showing from the roof of the garage.
The fire was declared under control six minutes after the first responding fire crew arrived on the scene. A fire investigator was brought in to check the scene.
The fire investigator concluded his investigation and determined the fire started by the fence and spread to the garage. The cause of the fire was deemed arson after a vehicle was seen at the scene before the start of the fire.
It was witnessed that the vehicle stopped by the fence and someone set it on fire. The estimated damage of the structure was set at $5,000.
