聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In a report from the Communiplex Management Board (CMB), Ruth Demetrick said that the ice in the skating rink was 鈥渃oming along well but would benefit from consistent colder temperatures.鈥 She said that the new lights in the skating rink and the hall have been installed, the insulating of the ceiling in the skating rink is complete and a new 100-cup coffee urn and a new wet/dry vacuum cleaner were purchased for the hall.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing curling, Nicole Korpusik reported that the curling club was still looking to hire an assistant to the current ice-maker. She said the first bonspiel will be the Mixed Open Bonspiel in the third week of January and teams could contact Ken Newell to register. Wing nights on Friday nights have been a great success, she said. There continues to be a need for groups or individuals to work the kitchen for wing nights.聽
Day curling is held Tuesdays and Thursdays in the mornings and the afternoons.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Laura Dahl said that the walking club has resumed meeting regularly on Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Communiplex. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join. She said that if anyone is unable to meet with the group at the regularly scheduled time, alternate arrangements may be made by contacting her.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing Norquay School activities, Stacy Rubletz mentioned the band students鈥 concert on December 15 and the elementary grades鈥 concert on December 17. She said that the junior boys basketball team hosted its home tournament on December 4 and 5 and won first place, while the junior girls basketball team was to be hosting its home tournament on January 9. Both junior and senior curling practices have started with a mixed team in each division.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Delphine Howard, discussing NICE Centre activities, said that the Christmas supper, which was catered by the Whistle Stop Restaurant, was held December 6 with 50 people attending and three meals being delivered. Entertainment was provided by a band from Canora, with games, readings and a draw for door prizes rounding out the evening.
The Centre has been rented for a few Christmas parties, she said. There is currently an abundance of books which have been donated so that there is no more room on the shelves. The books are available for loan to anyone interested. In addition to pool, shuffleboard, and card games, there are a number of intricate puzzles available, she said.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Regarding the chamber of commerce, Melissa Czornobay reported that
Santa Claus Day was held on December 5 in conjunction with a home and gift show at the Communiplex. All events were very well attended. Overall, $1,300 was raised to go towards the Communiplex upgrades.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Norquay Trade Show will be held March 18 and 19, she said.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing Ukrainian Dance, Lilia Livingstone said that a general meeting was held November 30 when details for the Malanka Ukrainian New Year鈥檚 Banquet and Dance to be held Saturday, January 23, were discussed. Tickets for the event have been printed and are available by contacting Dana Nystedt, she said. Only advance tickets will be sold for the Banquet and Dance with the deadline being January 8. Only 300 tickets will be sold, therefore everyone is encouraged to get his or her tickets early.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There will be a dance showcase presented by the dancers followed by the dance with music provided by the Zayshley Band of Canora. Tickets for the Dance only will be available at the door.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 She said that members of the club will be attending the dance festival in Russell, Man. on April 8 to10, and the Yorkton Kalyna Festival on May 6 to 8.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The health auxiliary continues to raise further funds for the secure outdoor area, Delphine Howard said.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing Legion activities, Laura Dahl said that the Legion Christmas potluck supper was held December 17 with entertainment being provided by Dianne Prekaski.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Regarding the Tail Twisters 4-H Club, Ruth Demetrick said that a riding clinic with clinician Ty Pole was held November 21 at Naclia鈥檚 Riding Arena and it was very well-attended. A general meeting was held December 1 when the topic of public speaking was discussed. It was decided that the Tail Twisters club will host the northeast Region 4-H Public Speaking Event on April 10. The club members also worked together to begin entering information into their record books, which were distributed at this meeting.
4-H curling has begun and the Good Spirit 4-H Beef Club in Canora will host the district 18/19 curling playdowns.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Maggie Lukey said that the playschool classes went on a field trip to the elementary school to see a storyteller on December 1 and enjoyed it very much.
The In Good Taste fundraiser was a great success. The last day of classes was December 17, and the first of the new year, on January 5.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Regarding figure skating, Melissa Czornobay said that a fun skate was held December 18, when the skating coach was to put the children into groups. Practices are being held Fridays and possibly some Wednesdays. The kitchen will be open during practices and possibly on Sundays during general skating as well. The group is planning a carnival for February.
Regan Foster said that the Timberline Band Association senior members toured Canora, Sturgis, Preeceville, Invermay and Norquay on December 15 and 16, performing Christmas music. The beginner and intermediate bands from each town were to join the senior band in the performance in their schools.
Nicole Korpusik said that the Norquay Nighthawks were to play a game in Kelvington on December 20 and regular practices will begin after the Norquay ice is ready.聽
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing the Active Aging Group, Delphine Howard said that classes will resume in the New Year. There were four new members registered this year, bringing the total to 17. Classes are going along quite well, with approximately 10-12 in attendance at each class, she said. Classes will continue until April 15.
The community meeting regarding upgrades and fundraising for the Communiplex, which was postponed in November, will be held in the New Year, it was said. Every community group on the recreation board was requested to send a representative to attend.
