SASKATOON — NDP-Saskatchewan Opposition Whip Doyle Vermette said members of their caucus will not be making any plans to go out of the country during the two-week long holiday season.
Doyle assured that international travel will be scratched off the NDP’s list due to concerns of the latest variant of the Coronavirus and to follow the latest advisory issued by the Saskatchewan provincial government.
Last Thursday, Premier Scott Moe issued a travel advisor based on the Federal government’s recent announcement.
“In light of a new international travel advisory issued by the federal government, Saskatchewan residents are encouraged to observe all local public health orders if travelling and are expected to fully comply with the testing procedures upon arrival and departure; residents should also conduct their own personal risk assessment,” Moe said in the issued statement.
And Vermette said the NDP caucus will also follow the said travel advisory.
“In light of the new federal health recommendations against non-essential international travel, we have been in contact with all MLAs and staff within the Sask. NDP Caucus and can confirm that no MLA or staff member will be travelling internationally throughout the holiday season.”
“Though none planned on any out-of-country travel, it is the direction and expectation of the Sask. NDP Caucus that all federal health recommendations will be followed.”
Vermette added that Omicron is a variant of concern as the world is still in the midst of the pandemic.
“The Omicron COVID-19 variant is spreading rapidly around the world. This variant poses a significant threat to people in our province.”
He said MLAs should lead by example.
“The federal government has now officially warned against non-essential international travel as a way to reduce the spread of Omicron. As MLAs, we are expected to show leadership for Saskatchewan people and abide by all federal and provincial health recommendations.”
