The RCMP has arrested a suspect in the murder of a 17 year old boy and subsequent abduction of a 17 year old girl following a 12-hour standoff in Sturgeon Landing.
Early Wednesday morning police allege Jonas Budd shot and killed Dustin Bird, then forcibly abducted Kayla Natomagan, Bird's girlfriend and daughter of Budd's estranged common-law partner.
Natomagan was the subject of an Amber Alert, but was found safe and sound a few hours later in Manitoba north of The Pas by Cranberry Portage RCMP. Budd is said to have fled into the bush on foot.
After a 24 hour manhunt, police received a tip that Budd was hiding in the community of Sturgeon Landing, about 50 kilometres from where the girl was located. RCMP members surrounded a house formerly owned by Budd's father. After a 12-hour standoff, Budd gave himself up late last night without incident.
Authorities have not released a list of charges. Budd is scheduled to appear in Lac La Ronge court on Monday.
