Male arrested after making threats, fleeing from police: Wadena RCMP

Investigation determined that an altercation occurred between an adult male and an individual at a security checkpoint at an entrance to the community.
WADENA - On Dec 10, 2021, Wadena RCMP responded to a disturbance on Fishing Lake First Nation.

Investigation determined that an altercation occurred between an adult male and an individual at a security checkpoint at an entrance to the community. The male threatened the individual with a weapon before leaving the area. The individual was not injured.

Wadena RCMP immediately began searching for the male, and located him in an SUV at a residence in the community. Despite efforts to stop the SUV, it drove away.

Officers continued to search the area for the male suspect. A police officer patrolling Highway #16 south of Fishing Lake First Nation located the SUV. The SUV had collided with another vehicle and rolled over. None of the occupants of either vehicle were injured and the male was arrested.

As a result of investigation, Joseph Desjarlais (DOB:1990-06-13) of Fishing Lake First Nation is charged with:

-1 count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code

- 1 count, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code

- 1 count, carry concealed weapon, Section 90(2), Criminal Code

- 1 count, use imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, Section 85(3), Criminal Code

- 1 count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code

- 1 count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code

- 1 count, possession of weapon contrary to order, Section 117.01(3), Criminal Code

He will appear in Wynyard Provincial Court on Dec. 23.
