Yorkton Council unanimously agreed to a few subtle revisions to the City鈥檚 Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program Policy.
The Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program is a partnership among Sask Sport Inc., Sask Culture Inc., and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association Inc. through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund, Darcy McLeod, Director Community Development, Parks & Recreation told the regular meeting of Council Monday.
鈥淭he grant program assists in the development of community sport, culture and recreation programs by providing funds to non-profit community organizations operated by volunteers,鈥� he said.
The purpose of the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program is as follows:
*It provides access to sport, culture, and recreation for all Saskatchewan people regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, and economic status, physical or mental ability;
*It provides funds to community non-profit volunteer organizations in support of sport, culture, and recreation programs;
*It allows communities to establish local priorities; and
*It stipulates that all participating groups, from administration to beneficiary, are responsible for ensuring complete and accurate accounting.
鈥淭he goal of this program is to get people involved in sport, culture and recreation activities by enabling communities to address the needs of local residents,鈥� said McLeod.
鈥溾�dministration recently conducted a review of the City policy guiding the implementation of the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program in Yorkton. The Policy maintains the minimum criteria required by Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund, however it further defines the process used to adjudicate local applications for funding. The recent review further clarified the responsibilities for applicants related to ensuring their follow-up requirements are met and the creation of an unresolved list for those that do not complete the required follow-up process.鈥�
The Community Development, Parks and Recreation Committee reviewed this policy at their February 10, meeting and support moving forward with the revised policy.
In 2015, $108,429.00 was distributed to local non-profit sport, culture and recreation organizations in Yorkton.
