The largest pumpkin to win the 20th annual Preeceville Great Pumpkin contest tipped the scale at 134 pounds.
      The pumpkin was entered by Tom Babchishin of Sturgis. The contest was held at the Preeceville Legion Hall due to inclement weather on September 24.
           The contest was sponsored by the Town of Preeceville Economical Development Committee and featured entries in the pumpkin, potato, cabbage, zucchini, onion, carrot, turnip, beet and kids’ categories.
           All entries had to be grown in a garden and must have been show ready with the tops cut off. First place entries won $50 and $25 was awarded for second place. Entries in the kids’ category received $10 and the pumpkin entries won $75 for first place and $50 for second.
           In the pumpkin contest there were five other entries: Charis Maier’s entry weighed 101.5 pounds; Tim Belous, 72.5 pounds; Kiera and Keane Balyski, 103.5 pounds; Carter and Wyatt Scheller, 70 pounds, and Juanita Ivanochko, 91.5 pounds.
           In the beet category there were six entries. Diane Kudeda won first place with her entry that weighed 6.11 pounds and second place was won by Judy Bjornstad, 4.12 pounds. Other entries were: Isaiah Maier, 2.14 pounds; Esther Prystay, 2.03 pounds; Carter and Wyatt Scheller, 4.06 pounds; Jackie Blotski, 3.12 pounds, and Susan Serhan, 3.02 pounds.
           In the carrot category there were six entries with Joe Yacyshyn winning first for his entry that weighed 2.09 pounds. Second place went to Susan Serhan for her entry that weighed 2.04 pounds. Other entries were: Harry Wolowski, two pounds; Esther Prystay, 14 ounces; Jackie Blotski, 1.13 pounds and Stella Kardyanl, 15 ounces.
           In the cabbage category there were four entries. Marg Bowey won first for her entry of 14 pounds. Susan Serhan won second place for a cabbage weighing 13.5 pounds. Other entries included Kathleen Fraser for her entry of 11.5 pounds and Hudson Maier, for an entry of 8.06 pounds.
           In the onion category, Harvey Wolowski won first for an onion weighing 2.02 pounds, and second was won by Susan Serhan for her entry that weighed 1.04 pounds. Other entries were from Marg Bowey, one pound and Levi Maier, one pound.
           In the potato category, Carter and Wyatt Scheller won first place for their entry of 3.07 pounds. Second place went to Joe Yacyshyn, 2.09 pounds. Other entries were: Esther Prystay, 2.08 pounds; Jackie Blotski, 2.04 pounds, and Susan Serhan, 1.13 pounds.
           In the turnip category, Jackie Blotski won first for a turnip weighing 9.07 pounds; second place went to Kristy Karpik, 4.10 pounds. Other entries were by Levi Maier, 2.06 pounds, and Stella Kardynal, three pounds.
           In the zucchini category there were nine entries. Jodi Mastrachuk won first for her entry that weighed 15 pounds. Esther Prystay and Susan Serhan tied for second place with entries that weighed 11.5 pounds. Other entries were by: Lorne Plaxin, nine pounds; Carter and Wyatt Scheller, 9.15 pounds; Charis Maier, 7.14 pounds; Vicki Peet, 8.08 pounds; Marg Bowey, 7.01 pounds, and Juanita Ivanochko, 7.15 pounds.
           In the kids’ category there were seven entries from Jayce Belous, Hudson Maier, Isaiah Maier, Carter Scheller, Wyatt Scheller, Myrandah Gagnon and Jainylle Gagnon.
           A cucumber and squash were brought in for display.
           Prairie Flavours was in attendance selling honey and corn.
