Former Kamsack air cadet distinguishes herself as a top biathlon athlete at marksmanship instructors

A former Kamsack air cadet was named the top female biathlon athlete in a group of about 250 cadets attending a camp in Whitehorse this summer.

F/Sgt. Brooklynn Andrusiak of Tisdale, who left the Kamsack squadron last year, had been selected to attend a six week Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructors鈥 course in Whitehorse, Yukon July 5 to August 16.

The daughter of former Kamsack residents Daryl and Chastity Andrusiak of Tisdale, and granddaughter of Sandra and Eugene Andrusiak of Pelly, Brooklynn had attended a basic survival and a survival instructors鈥 course while still a Kamsack cadet.

鈥淚t was pretty cool,鈥 Andrusiak said of her experience in Whitehorse, where from the fl atland prairies, she was able to marvel at mountains.

鈥淲e had 24-hour daylight, but we got used to it,鈥 she said, adding that meeting cadets from the United Kingdom who were attending the camp was very interesting.

While in Whitehorse, Andrusiak had been selected as the cadet of the day, cadet of the week, athlete of the week and at the graduation parade she was named the top female biathlete and received the commanding officer鈥檚 鈥渃oin.鈥
