PREECEVILLE - The talents of students from across the area were showcased in piano, vocal, speech arts, band and solo instrumentals during the week-long Parkland Music Festival held between the communities of Preeceville and Sturgis from April 15 to April 18. The festival concluded with a final concert that featured 19 performers at the Preeceville Trinity United Church on April 21.
Miles Russell was the master of ceremonies for the afternoon program. “There are many volunteer hours that go into making this festival,” he said. “The talents of many youth shone brightly all week and we were very fortunate to be part of such a great showcase of talents,” Russell said.
Scholarships were also presented and there were 22 performances at the final concert.
During the concert, Maicey Scheller of Preeceville was up first performing a Beethoven piece on her flute. Maycee Jucaban and Mia Angela Leonor, both of Canora, played a duet on the piano to Beethoven’s Ghost.
Jonah Christianson of Preeceville played a piano selection to Freddie the Frog.
Rayleen Grace Young of Canora performed a piano piece to Shark Tango.
Chloe Viacrucis of Preeceville played a piano piece to Distant Chimes.
Lowell Rice of Canora performed a piano selection to Beautiful Swan.
Deacon MacMillan of Canora played Starfish at Night on the piano.
Catherine Chorneyko of Norquay played a piano piece to Minuet in G Minor.
Samuel Korney of Preeceville played a piano piece to Song of Twilight.
Hannelle Sevilla of Yorkton performed a piano selection to The Pub.
Briley Friday of Preeceville played her clarinet to the music of Gigue.
The Sturgis Composite School Grades 3 and 4 performed two pieces, a singing game and a choral speech.
Levi Maier of Preeceville played a piano piece to Just Strutting Along.
Joseph Chorneyko of Norquay played the piano to the music of Window Shopping.
Hudson Maier of Preeceville performed a piano section to The Elegant Toreador.
Seth Propp of Canora played a piano piece to The Pink Panther.
Amber MacDonald of Invermay entertained the audience with a piano piece named In Memorium.
Maycee Jucaban went back to the piano to play a solo to the music of Peking Opera.
Mia Angela Leonor also went back to the piano for a solo to Crimson Maple.
Miah Ruf of Canora played a flute selection to Little Sweet Movement.
At the conclusion of the performances portion, sisters Maicey Scheller, Kyla Scheller and their cousin Abby Scheller gathered on center stage to play a flute and saxophone selection to Menuet (G.F. Handel). All the girls are from Preeceville.
Scholarships for piano, choral speech, singing games and band were presented by various presenters.

Piano medal recipients were, Anna Chorneyko of Norquay, Lochlan Rice of Canora, Lowell Rice of Canora, Elizabeth Stiles, Finn Propp of Canora, Hailey Seghers of Sturgis, Jacob Seghers of Sturgis, Poppy Fullawka of Canora and Rayleen Grace Young of Canora.
The Sturgis Composite School Grades 3 and 4 group received a scholarship for choral speech and singing games.
Scholarship recipients for band were, Maicey Scheller, Jack Craig of Canora, Abby Scheller, Briley Friday, Kyla Scheller and Miah Ruf of Canora.
