Sympathy of the Dubuc Community is extended to the family of Matthew Smith who passed away November 5 after he lost a two month battle to recover from severe burns he received, while working in his shop. Matt learned welding and mechanics from his father, working on all types of engines was his life's work as well as his hobby. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Smith; daughter, Sandra (Keith) Smith; son, Raymond (Brenda) Maycher; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. A funeral service was held Tues., Nov. 13 in the Dubuc Memorial Hall with Rev. Ken Buchan officiating. Following the Celebration of Matt's life, a luncheon was served to all in attendance.
Paul and Pearl Flaman of San Antonio, Texas were visitors back home renewing friendships and catching up on news. They spent some time visiting in Yorkton and also with their son, Mark (Maxine) Flaman and family in Winnipeg before heading back down south. It's always great to see old friends!
Congratulations to great-grandparents for the third time, Earle and Nina Moller. Great-granddaughter Ali Elizabeth Maga was born on Nov. 25, 2012 to their grandson, Scott and Katie Maga. Ali was welcomed by her excited big sister, Molly, and equally excited grandparents, Sherry (Moller) and Alain Chatigny.
On Nov. 28, a special catered Christmas supper and party replaced the regular Christmas potluck party held at the Hut in years past. Kim Drozda of Stockholm prepared a bounteous roast beef and trimmings feast for the fifty people in attendance. A carol sing-song followed supper. Everyone received a gift bag from Santa, and then, as well, there were raffle and door prize winners drawn. Another cup of coffee with a sweet treat and more visiting rounded out a most enjoyable evening. A great big thank-you was extended to the committee of Leona Kaczur, Audrey Nielsen, Joan Kerr, and Glenda Bell for all the work they do to keep our "Hut" doors open as a community meeting place and also to Margie Oldham for playing the piano so wonderfully to accompany our carol singing.
Charlie Johnson and Pat Shotensky from Kamsask accompanied by Art and Sylvia Stadel of Canora were home to attend the Christmas supper on Wednesday. Art and Sylvia have recently moved from their farm home just west of Dubuc to Canora where their daughter, Brenda and Carlyle Topliss reside. The couple was presented with a poinsettia plant and many wishes for good health and much happiness. Everyone was glad to see them and hope they will visit often. Ed and Margie Oldham from Regina were also welcomed when they drove out especially to join us for the evening festivities. Irene Hawes, Mary Valentine and Brian Lloy, all newcomers to the community, attended their first supper event at the Hut. We surely hope it won't be your last! Irene lives with her grandson, Arrick Hawes, at the former John and Bernice Kaczur farm just north of Dubuc. Mary and Brian have recently moved into the mobile home formerly where the Ryan Freed family lived, about 5 miles south of town. Mary and Brian have also been attending coffee row and getting to know the regulars.
Word has been received of the passing of Dan Krepakevich of Yorkton on Tues., Nov. 27. Sympathy is extended to his wife, Doris (Letestu)Krepakevich and all their blended Krepakevich-Letestu extended family members. A service of remembrance was held on Sat., Dec. 1, at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton.
Upcoming events for the Christmas season:
(1) A potluck supper and children's Christmas concert program will be held in the Dubuc Memorial Hall on Fri., Dec. 14 starting at 6:00 with supper and the program to follow. Santa usually makes an appearance. Raffle and door prizes are drawn. Everyone is welcome to attend this event - hope you can make it.
(2) A Christmas Interdenominational Church service will be held in the Dubuc Worship Centre on Sat. evening, Dec. 22 at 7:30 with Rev Walter Farquarson from Saltcoats officiating. Everyone is welcome to attend this special service of candles and carols. We'll see you there.
