Get well wishes go to Norman Johnson who underwent some surgery in Regina recently. Hope you're up to playing a game of catch real soon. Get well wishes also to Ken Allan who spent overnight in hospital last week. Glad to report that he is home, back to coffee row and feeling much better.
Lloyd Siever bought coffee and brought cookies to celebrated his birthday at coffee row last week on Saturday.
Margie and Ed Oldham of Regina were staying at their get-away cabin on the weekend. They and several local people attended the Lippai wedding in Esterhazy. The mother of the bride, Elaine (Chopping) Lippai grew up in the Cotham district south of Dubuc. The Choppings, Bawdens and Oldhams are all cousins.
The August Potluck was held on the second Wednesday of the month as usual. Twenty persons enjoyed the good food and fellowship. Jacob Oremba drew Grandma Leona Kaczur's name for the doorprize and Marty Haubrick drew for the 50/50 and pulled his own name!
Ken Allan, one of the regulars at coffee row, bought coffee on Tuesday for his birthday - in absentia. The grain bins needed some attention that morning. Happy Birthday wishes and thanx for the "free" coffee, Ken!
Vivian Talbot and Sharon Clark were recent visitors to Langenburg Care Home to visit with Martha Simle and her twin sister, Marie Wilson. Martha and Marie, who are 91 years of age, were excited to see someone from "Home" and sent greetings to everyone.
Ken and Patty Flick of Rocky Mountain House, BC were here to visit with his parents, Bun and Ivan Flick, for a few days. Recently, Bun, in the company of her sisters, motored to Minot, ND for a girls only weekend get-away.
Trent Kaczur from Calgary, AB called on his uncle and aunt, Joe and Leona Kaczur, one day last week.
A graveside memorial was held for Margaret Moore at the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery south of Dubuc on Friday. Thom Carnahan from Four Town Pastoral Charge officiated on behalf of the United Church. Margaret passed away May 1, 2013 six days short of her 94th birthday. She came to Dubuc to teach at Larson School, married a local boy, Edwin Moore, and together, they farmed and raised their family. Margaret returned to teaching when the children were older. Many local friends and neighbours were in attendance to support her children, Carolyn Thauberger of Vancouver and Clifford Moore (Gail) of Prince Albert, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A luncheon followed in the "HUT" where everyone gathered to reminisce and share memories. Sympathy of Dubuc and district is extended to all of Margaret's family.
Elvira (Norman) Lysechko and Bob Martin of Melville were on an early morning drive on Saturday. After a visit with some Norman family at the village cemetery, they called in at coffee row. Phillip Norman, son of Vern, had compiled a framed collage of family pictures that Elvira brought to donate to the hut. Everyone at coffee was able to view the collage and some discussion happened about the family and where they had lived and farmed while living at Dubuc. Elvira and Bob toured around town and visited an old family home before heading back to Melville.
Chris Topliss accompanied by sister, Vivian Talbot, took a drive to Biggar a couple weeks ago to visit with their nephew, Jason Stradeski. They had supper together and were able to visit at Jason's home before heading into Saskatoon for the night. Next day, they lunched with Shirley (Willway) Epp who sent greetings to everyone at home. They visited at Sherbrooke Home where they viewed the new computer lab. Ina Skene, their cousin, had been a patient at Sherbrooke for several years before her passing. Memorials from Ina's family were put towards updating the computer room and Ina's name is one of 5 on the plaque by the door. Chris and Vivian returned home after a great overnight holiday. The following Sunday, they again went on a week long tour to Swift Current, where they visited Darla (Talbot) Bailey and children, Liam, Sarah and Carter, and Lethbridge, where they spent a couple evenings with sister, Sylvia and Dennis Chinner.
Pat and Steve O'Neill from Elmwood, ON were here to visit her brother, Doug Morley, for four days. They viewed the Qu'Appelle Valley and toured Esterhazy and Yorkton.
John & Joan Wilson travelled to Regina on Sat., Aug. 24 to attend the wedding of their Grandson Dereck Wilson and Blaire Hopkins. A beautiful outdoor ceremony was held in Kiwanis Park, followed by cocktails, supper and dancing in the Canadian room of the Ramada Plaza Hotel. They were joined by their family: Mike & Alana Wilson, parents of the groom, Kruz & Jennifer of Manor - Kruz was a groomsman for his brother; Brenda & Gordon Junck of Mazenod; Kent, Kathy & Jaimie Wilson & friend Kate of Regina; Maureen & Barb Wilson of Shaunavon; and Dave & Helene How of Saskatoon. After a honeymoon in Las Vegas, the happy couple will reside in Estevan with their 3 year old son Nicholas.The family enjoyed breakfast together at the hotel Sunday morning before all heading home. John and Joan also had a short visit with her sisters, Pat Todd and Betty Lou Earl-Love of Regina while in the city.
