Dallas and Danya Forsberg of Regina and Sandra Forsberg from Saskatoon were recent visitors with Mary Forsberg. They attended the memorial for Rose Kopetski while here. Willie Nagy of Saskatoon accompanied Sandra to Dubuc for a few days and was able to visit some of her family members in the area. Willie also spent a night with her good friend, Mary Forsberg, before returning home with Sandra.
Last weekend, Len and Pat (Carlson) Culic from Parksville, BC stopped to visit with her aunt, Mary Forsberg. While staying here, they also visited with her aunt, Judy (John) Talbot and cousin, Jeanette and Ed Boyechko, all of Esterhazy and spent an evening catching up with cousin, Jim (Vivian) Talbot.
The monthly potluck supper was quite a spread this time as 27 people enjoyed a meal together. Joe Kaczur won the door prize giveaway and Mary Nagy was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw. Out of town guests were Austin, Larissa and Braden Clark from Clavet who are holidaying with Grandma Sharon Clark for a couple of weeks.
The community was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Marjorie Ann Rubin of Weyburn on July 3 at the young age of 63. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 41 years, Ken Rubin; 2 sons, Aaron (Michelle) and Brent (Patrick); 4 grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Danielle Rubin; and her twin sister, Susan (Dwight) Quistberg; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Rae and Edith Aldred. Rae and Edith Aldred came to Dubuc to manage the Co-op and quickly became active in community life. One of the things they will be remembered for are the lovely solos Rae rendered at church, funerals and concerts, while Edith accompanied him on the organ. A memorial service was held July 8 in the Weyburn United Church with a private family interment taking place at Ceylon Cemetery at a later date. Sympathy from Dubuc and community goes out to all of Marjorie's family and many friends.
A memorial service was held in the Dubuc Memorial Hall on Fri., July 12 for Leonard Oliver Simle who was born Nov. 10, 1920 at Dubuc and died June 9, 2013 at the age of 92. He was laid to rest with many of his family predecessors in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery south of Dubuc on the super grid. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Sumner Place in Esterhazy; his daughter, Marion (Bill) Harder; son, Mark (Cheryl) Simle; 7 grandchildren who were all in attendance at the memorial; and 4 great-grandchildren; many extended family members and a host of friends. Leonard will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. Condolences from the community go out to to the Simle family.
Word has been received that Ruth (Sprowle) Venaas, another old timer from Dubuc, has passed away on July 8, 2013 at the age of 99 years, 322 days. Funeral Services were held in Regina with lunch to follow. Then a drive to Dubuc where Ruth was laid to rest in the Village Cemetery next to Nordeen. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Nordeen; son, Murray; 3 sisters, Birtie Sprowle, Wilma (Fred) Rosler, Bertha (Albert) Lindwall; and her brother, Lorne (Eileen) Sprowle. Sympathy of Dubuc and community goes out to her children, Bernice Federle of Calgary, AB, Verna Hauck of Regina, Norma (Glen) Lewis of Okotoks, AB, and Garry (Pat) Venaas of Saskatoon; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers included Jim Talbot, Peter Nielsen, Dale Herperger, Ed Oldham, Ken Potts, and Erv Hickie.
Coffee row was blessed with "free" coffee, sweet baking and delicious sliced fruit on Tuesday morning when Audrey Nielsen treated everyone to celebrate her birthday. There were about 2 dozen in attendance. Out-of-town guests were Audrey's niece, Jennah Johnson, and her baby daughter, Anna, from Yorkton. Thanks for celebrating with us, Audrey, and have a great year!
Carter, Sarah and Liam Bailey, who have just moved into Swift Current, have been holidaying with grandparents, Jim and Vivian Talbot, for a few days while their mom, Darla, does some unpacking. They had an overnite camping trip to Sunset Beach with Granny and cousins, Riley and Ashalee Talbot. Kareena and Hudson Andersen, cousins from Regina, were also down at their "little house" holidaying so they were able to spend time with everyone as well. Uncle Mervin (Dawn) Andersen and Uncle Shane (Terra) Talbot were also around to enjoy visiting with the Bailey children.
Deanna (Letestu)and Sean O'Neill have been camping out on their newly purchased lot on Noel Street near the church. They have been busy planting a few trees, shrubs and creating some flower beds.
