WESTERN PRODUCER — A new partnership between Discovery Farm and SVG Ventrures|THRIVE is gearing up to help more agtech start-ups develop their emerging technologies, while communicating their value to farmers.
Both organizations anticipate further opportunities for in-field trials and new product launches, while ensuring market-readiness and adoption on farms.
Discovery Farm, located at Langham, Sask., is owned and operated by Glacier FarmMedia. Its sister operation, Discovery Farm in Woodstock, Ont., is the home of Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show.
Since starting in 2015, the 610-acre site Discovery Farm in Saskatchewan has become the western Canadian hub for demonstration research activities.
Based in California’s Silicon Valley, SVG Ventures | THRIVE is an agricultural and food technology incubator and investment provider.
Last year, it also established an innovation and investment office in Calgary.
The agrifood venture and innovation platform comprises some of the world’s top ag, food and technology corporations, universities, and investors.
One of these, Good Catch produces non-seafoods that evoke the experience of the real thing thanks to legumes and algae oil. Their proprietary six-legume blend of peas, chickpeas, lentils, soy, fava beans, and navy beans delivers protein and a texture that resembles seafood. Algae oil provides seafood flavor and omega-3s.
