A Public Awareness Report was once again presented to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
Introduced by City Manager Lonnie Kaal, the items included:
鈥� Broadway Street East (Highway 10 East) -- Wet conditions slowed progress on the project as the underlying roadway structure must be dry to ensure a proper and lasting base prior to resurfacing. Concrete paving of Eastbound lanes should be completed this week, weather permitting. The pavement will then need to cure for seven days before traffic can be rerouted to the new lanes. Landscaping, lighting and pathway development will be worked on while pavement cures, then work will begin on West bound lanes. The Broadway East phase of the project is expected to be complete by early September, weather permitting. The second phase will be redevelopment of the Mayhew to Darlington Street corridor, once the first phase is complete.
鈥� Dracup Avenue North -- Continuing upgrades to Dracup Avenue North began in late July and will continue throughout the construction season. This project will include more underground infrastructure work, removal of the existing asphalt road surface, concrete resurfacing and a new Roundabout at the Dracup Avenue/Darlington Street intersection.
鈥� The Yorkton Official Community Plan Receives Award -- I鈥檓 pleased to announce that The Yorkton Official Community Plan has received the Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute 2015 Award for Excellence In Planning. The Community Plan was developed over a period of three years following a time of unprecedented growth, and included extensive public consultation and research. Approved by the province last year, the plan creates a 25 year path for continuing to develop all lands within Yorkton city limits in a coordinated, thoughtful way, while managing and enhancing our infrastructure and public services. The award was presented at the Canadian Institute of Planners Annual Conference in Saskatoon in June.
