Children and their parents are encouraged to participate in a free program focused on improving literacy, through crafts, music and reading. The Come Grown with Me program is hosted Tuesdays in Sturgis and in Preeceville on Wednesdays during the months of October and November.
The program encourages parents to spend quality time with their children, starting with reading and branching out into the many different programs offered by the Family Resource Centre. The program also allows parents the opportunity to socialize with each other and share experiences through a support group atmosphere.
Teniel Larson is the instructor for the program. She has been a qualified librarian since 2001 and has worked in Yorkton, Kamsack, Canora (public library and the Canora Composite School library) and has vast knowledge in various programs focused on literacy.
"The Centre is also looking at different programs focused on preschoolers and their parents. The program is open to everyone and we want to encourage individuals to come out and participate in a creative, fun program," said Karolyn Kosheluk, the Family Resource Centre co-ordinator.
